Members' Benefits

Website

The Arts Around Canberra website provides comprehensive information about daily arts and cultural activities in the ACT and Region. These are drawn from members’ entries of text and images. The information on events from the site is used to compile the listings distributed through CAM.

Promotion

CAM's marketing campaign includes the promotion of the website with advertising in newspapers, arts publications, tourism brochures, and brochures, banners and signage at tourist information centres, accommodation and attractions.

Arts Around Canberra e-newsletters

Each month, information on members’ activities and events is compiled from website listings and emailed to local, regional and national media. A free e-newsletter is emailed fortnightly to subscribers, CAM members, business and industry groups, hotels and accommodation houses, tourist bodies, arts organisations and government bodies. CAM also produces Culture for the Kids e-newsletter listing members public and private arts education programs. The Arts Around Canberra website allows easy registration to receive this information via e-mail, and there is positive growth in the number of subscribers.

Editorial and Diary Listings

CAM works in partnership with a number of media publications to provide opportunities for greater promotion of members’ activities and events. Its partnership with Town & Country Magazine produces a regional supplement twice a year, with a readership of over 270,000 in the southern region of New South Wales.
CAM has enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership with CAPITAL Magazine since it was first published in October 2002, providing editorial information on the Canberra arts scene in a diary format. CAM also has two pages dedicated to stories about artists and artforms in every issue.

CAM also supplies listing information to a number of monthly publications.

Publicity Services

CAM offers a specialist arts publicity service for members. This is on a fee-based service, tailored to suit members’ needs. The activities carried out include issuing media releases, negotiating opportunities for media interviews and editorial coverage, and organising launches and media calls. On completion of the project, the member is supplied with a project report, including all media coverage received and copies of media releases.

Co-operative Marketing

CAM co-ordinates the publication and distribution of specialist brochures, representative of it membership including gallery and museum guides, musical theatre guides and festival guides. A general Members brochure is also produced but costs for this publication are included in the CAM annual membership fee.

Advertising Discounts

CAM members are able to make considerable savings with special advertising rates from The Canberra Times, CAPITAL Magazine, BMA, and Town & Country.

Information and resources

Members updates are sent to members including opportunities and events. The CAM Director is available, by appointment, for members who wish to consult on individual marketing questions. CAM office contains many publications including research, marketing and Australia Council documents.

Professional Development

CAM develops seminars, workshops and forums in consultation with members and other organisations to develop greater skills and knowledge in the arts sector. It also encourages networking opportunities in the arts and with other sectors.

Advocacy

CAM represents the interest of the arts in the Canberra community and to other sectors including business and tourism. It is a member of the ACT & Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Canberra Business Council’s Kindred Organisations and Tourism, Sports and Arts Taskforce, Tourism Industry Council, Australian Business Limited (ABL) and the Arts Law Society of Australia. In partnership with ABL, CAM supports Arts & Ausiness Xchange, an initiative to develop business support for the arts and the exchange of ideas, skills, knowledge, products and facilities.
